Fur-baby Friday: Matching Dog Crate Cover-Ups

Hey everyone! I wanted to start something new (its not so hard since this blog is so new) Fur-Baby Fridays! I know I am a mommy to my three furbabies and I create for them too! Here are my babies (the two dogs, we have a cat too)...

As much as I love them, I don't like the look of their "rooms" (crates they sleep in). So when we recieved our latest eddition Ka-Bar, I decided to cover their crates up. I used my Cricut to personalize them.

I measured the crates and added 3/4" to the size. (1/2" for the seam allowance, and 1/4" to allow it to slip over top of the crate without stretching).

For the front I cut 4 strips to make a box, leaving the inner portion open for the door. Make sure you finish the exposed edges by rolling and sewing (making the cut edge turned inside the seam).

For the door flap I just measured and cut it an inch wider and three inches longer and sewed it into the seam connecting the front to the top.

To make them a bit more personalized and cute, I cut out their name with my cricut using the alphabet cartridge already installed. I cut the letters at about 2" and the backing is about 8" long. I ironed them on and sewed around just the backing since it will not be moved in order to fray.

Here is the tag for Ka-Bar's crate.

And Lucy's...

I used a light weight muslin fabric to make sure they didn't get too hot at night.
