Quick Owl 3D Nursery Art

I have fallen in love with owls, and lately I have been seeing them everywhere. So I decided to try my hand at nursery decor since I am in love with the idea of new babies anyway!

I wanted to bring natural elements into the art but didn't want flaking branches in a baby's room, I went ahead and wrapped a branch I found in my backyard with yarn. I was pleasantly surprised by the effect it created! Instead of a branch in a box, I got a nice soft organic feature!

Here is what I started with.

I took the handles off a round serving tray to use as a "shadow box" of sorts.

I lined the serving tray with some designer scrapbook medium weight paper. Then hot glued a strand of yarn around the seams to cover some gaps around the edges. While my glue gun was still hot I started wrapping the branch, securing the continuous strand every 5 wraps or so to keep it tight. Then I glued the branch to the inside of the tray.

With my Cricut machine I cut out the owl from the Straight From the Nest cartridge at 5". I cut little Vs into the wing layer to get a more 3D look. After the owl was finished I cut out 3 sets of the leaves from the same cartridge and scored each to get a bent look. I then layered and hot glued them to the finished branch. And that is it!

I was surprised that it didn't take forever to create something so unique and beautiful! This is such a great project to personalize and give as a baby shower gift!

I finished it off with a sawtooth picture mount.
